About the Project
The 8,888 sardines in Sardines in the Tin represent the highs and lows experienced by office employees who are stuck in a never-ending cycle of commutes to and from their jobs. The daily trip on the "tin" subway is torture for them because of how crowded it is.
The goal of Sardines in the Tin is to create a network of people who can relate to the sardines' daily struggles and provide emotional support to one another.
Sardines' Story
SardiNation! Thousands of sardines live in harmony in a metropolis under the sea. SITT Corp., headquartered in the middle of the city, employs all of these people who seem like they could fit into a tin of sardines.
The sardine's daily routine consists of the same things: work, the train, and finally, home. Every day begins with a bunch of sardines taking the horrible "tin" subway to work, where they promptly exit and clock in at the SITT Corp. station.
Rich people throw endless parties, so the realm of hopes and wonders, Olympus, is always full of trash. The sardines' main job is to pick up this trash, which is a very boring task.
Each sardine dreams of one day joining the elite club of the elect and celebrating with them in the mythical city of Olympus. However, a paycheck alone won't go you very far in realizing your goal.
Every day, like good little sardines, they punch out, pack up into their "tin," and stop by the local Hope-is-Dope lottery shop on their way home. The storefront flag reads: "Have faith; it gets you somewhere. The time has come for you to take your place among the gods and bears."
There, the sardines waste not a single one of the fish stamps they have worked so hard to gain. And despite the fact that they typically lose, they never give up hope. Because every sardine thinks that the chances are small but never zero!
After a disappointing lottery experience, sardines go home, rest their eyes, and the next day, another same-day rolls around.
