To kick off the "Adopt a Water Monster" series, we'd like to tell you a little more about axolotls, a threatened amphibian species found in Mexico City's historic Xochimilco Lake.

Here are 100 axolots NFTs with different goals that aim to make the digital future more sustainable:

• Raise money for axolotl preservation efforts

Part of the money made from the project will go to help save axolotls in Mexico.

Due to an agreement between the collection and the Mexican Museum of the Axolotl in the municipality of Chignahuapan in the State of Puebla in Mexico, NFT owners can visit a real reserve and see the axolotls that are being helped by their purchase.

In this case, the NFT purchasers will be given the contact and access information.

• Strive to stop the illegal trade of endangered species

The main goal of the collection is to get the message out that the only acceptable way to buy an endangered animal is through a virtual art piece of it, which doesn't hurt the animal or put its survival at risk.

• Communicate the axolotl's unique traits to the world

The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness about why protecting the axolotl is crucial:

• The Aztecs' old language, náhuatl, gave us the word "axoltl," which means "Water Monster."
• Any component of their bodies can be regrown (including their brain).
• The DNA sequences from these organisms are the longest ever discovered.
• Unless they're in a very stressful situation, in which case they turn into salamanders, their bodies stay the same as they were when they were young (yes, similar to Pokemon).
• They have features that help in cancer research.

• Encourage the growth of Mexico's creative community.

The goal of this project is to give Mexican digital artists a place to show their work to people all over the world.

The Mexican digital artist Juan Fernando Bravo Rojas created all 100 of the specimens in the collection, and he succeeded in doing so by developing in each axolotl distinct features of texture, color, lighting, and other factors that configured these virtual specimens as actual artworks.
