GERMAN TRENCH – DAWN Muffled artillery echoes in the distance. The trench is soaked in mud. Rain drizzles. A young soldier, HEINRICH BRAUS (17), trembles in the corner. He is pale, dirty, and silently crying. Around him, wounded soldiers groan — some dead, others bandaged and barely moving. 🗨️ (German) Wounded Soldier (whispers): “Wir sind tot, bevor wir rausgehen.” (“We’re dead before we even go out.”) 🗨️ Heinrich (to himself, trembling): “Ich will nicht sterben…” (“I don’t want to die…”) Another soldier clutches a rosary. In the shadows, rats scurry. ⸻ SCENE 2 – “THE WHISTLE” INT. TRENCH – CONTINUOUS The harsh, sharp sound of a whistle cuts through the air. OFFICER FRITZ KRUGER (40s) strides in, blowing a silver whistle. He raises his hand and shouts. 🗨️ Kruger: “Alle Mann bereitmachen! Über die Mauer, los!” (“All men prepare!
